Summer Schools and Lecture Series

• European Summer School in Language, Logic, and Information (ESSLLI), organized by the Foundation for Language, Logic,Information (FoLLI). ESSLLI 2001 will take place in Helsinki, Finland in August 2001.

• Linguistic Institute organized by the Linguistic Society of America. The 2001 LSA Linguistic Institute will take place at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

• ELSNET European Summer School in Speech and Language. The 9th ELSNET European Summer School in 2001 will take place in Prague (Czech Republic) in July 2001. The topic will be Annotation in Language and Speech. http://www.bcn.rug.nl/bcn/courses/

• BCN Summer School organized by the School of Behavioral and Cognitive Neurosciences at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.

• The Vilem Mathesius Lecture Series organized by the Vilem Mathesius Centre for Research and Education in Semiotics and Linguistics at the Charles University, Prague.

Fellowship and Stipends

• The German Academix Exchange Service (DAAD) offers scholarships for foreign students and researchers. The DAAD web site contains a database of scholarship opportunities.

Student Conferences or Conferences with Student Sessions

• Computational Linguistics: The Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), its European Chapter EACL and its North-American Chapter NAACL hold regular meetings, which always include student sessions. Via the Don and Betty Walker International Student Fund students are eligible to apply for funds to attend the conferences.

  The next conferences will be the Second meeting of the NAACL (NAACL'01), Pittsburgh, PA (June 2-7, 2001) and the 39th Annual Meeting of the ACL (ACL'01) - joint with EACL'01, Toulouse, France (July 6-11, 2001).

• Theoretical Linguistics: The Students Organization of Linguistics in Europe (SOLE) was founded in 1992, by students of the Holland Institute of Generative Linguistics. Once a year, SOLE and a local comittee organize a conference for students of Linguistics. Open to registered students worldwide, it provides a forum for the coming generations of linguistics to present independent research to an international audience.

  The next conference CONSOLE 9 will be held 8-10 December 2000, at Lund University, in Lund, Sweden, and is organized by the Department of Linguistics and Phonetics.
